1996. The Harvesters from Independence Day⁣

This cheesy, schlocky piece of 90s American militaristic propaganda was the most successful movie of the year. I really enjoyed it when I first saw it as a kid. Even so, I was never very impressed by the creature design. With time I warmed a bit to it.⁣

In the original movie, the exoskeleton is thin and has short upper arms and very spindly legs. While the sequel made it look “cooler” by giving it a sturdier, more proportional, built that is more action figure-friendly. This is probably justified in-universe by them being of different breeds or castes.
